Hi,
I just started with the Pro version of Free Downloads, but I'm getting stuck. Is there someone here who can guide me a bit??
I might be looking for something that is not possible, but I guess I'm just lost in the options 🙁

What are you trying to do?

This is what I hope to be able to do with Free Downloads:

    - have an image of a poster on a page that also exists as a PDF-file (done)

    - have button below this image that directly links to the Woocommerce product page of this PDF-poster. (done)

    - Show an option on this Woocommerce product page where the customer can provide his email address where he wants the poster to be sent.
(the Woocommerce product page now only show a "Download now" button., so here is where I get confused.)

    - lead the customer to a custom page where he gets the confirmation that the poster was sent.
( I made a custom page, but as the process is not working it's useless.)

I hope this shows a bit where I run into trouble, Richard.

That's doable mate. Just go through the Download Delivery settings screen to set it to email and follow the instructions for setting the options and put the shortcode on the redirect page of your choice.

Then you need to enable download tracking on the Tracking & Emails setting screen, tick to require guest users provide their email and also registered users. This makes a popup show when the user clicks download, asking for their email. Then you can customise the text in that box to say what you want.

    I thought it would 🙂
But I did what you wrote and it still shows this 'Download now' button and starts to directly download a pdf file when I click on it, so I guess there's still a settings error ...

Go to my plugin area, then the Support tab, then Error Logs & Debug. There might be an error in there for your last download with more details.

Where do I find this 'My pluginn area"?

Got it. This is what it says:

[08-Oct-2021 17:08:30 Europe/Amsterdam] Redirect for email download attempt failed. User not logged in and email capture is not enabled. Defaulted to Instant Download.

So you haven't enabled email capture, that's in the Tracking & Emails settings page as I said above 🙂

    This totally did the trick!!
    Thanks Richard, very helpful.

Final question: I haven't found it yet, but is there in the support info somewhere a page where all the settings in all the pages are explained in order of their appearance on these pages? I got lost with this one, but I knew it would be possible. I now have the feeling that there are still quite some options , check boxes etc. which functionality I don't really understand...

In the support tab there's a Settings Explained link. The majority of the stuff is in there, but where needed there's also lots of explanation on the actual settings themselves, with examples in some places 🙂
