Thanks, very helpful.  I'm checking everything out now and still two questions arose:

    1. Are the email addresses where the files are sent stored somewhere?
    2. If I want to keep the addresses for use, I remember I could put in a checkbox where people can opt-in to be on a list for an email newsletter,
    Is that right?

In the WooCommerce admin menu, below Free Downloads, is Free Download Logs. That's where the emails are stored.

And yea you could set the option to have a checkbox to opti-in to a newsletter. MailChimp is the built in option.

If I go to this Logs section I see only four columns: Download, Product, User and Date.
No mention of email addresses. Also I can't add other columns...
I'm missing something, but have no clue what. 😣

The emails aren't shown in the columns, but if you go into the log you'll see it. You can also export all the logs from the Stats tab on my settings page.
